The Lois Nestel Memorial Exhibit Hall

Named after the Museum’s first Director and Naturalist, Lois Nestel, whose passion for nature inspired the creation of the Museum in 1968. Environmental controls and expanded exhibition space allow us to properly care for our exhibits, both built in house or on loan from other Museums.

Thanks also to support from Ron & Patty Anderson

Museum Memories

Take a step back in time to the world of Lois Nestel and the Museum beginnings.

Long-time visitors and residents share stories of their own special connection with the Museum.

These short audio recordings dip into the lives of people just like you.

Do YOU have a special museum connection? We want to hear it! An audio recording of your story could be part of the exhibit or on our website.

Ask the Docent at the front desk to get started.

Join Julie Stratton as she discovers the Cable Natural History Museum by pure accident! It was a connection that was meant to be. Julie became one of the 2016 summer interns and grew even more fascinated with the area.

Mike Heim final

Mike Heim

Listen as Mike Heim talks about being mentored by Lois Nestle. Lois took young Mike under her wing and let him blossom into a budding naturalist. This led Mike to his life-long career as a nature educator.

Mike and Lois also shared a love of orchids.

Mike shares more examples of Lois as a true conservationist.
