CABLE MUSEUM WINS ARTS COUNCIL GRANT
The Cable Natural History Museum recently received
a $1,000 grant from the Chequamegon Bay Arts Council. The grant
will be used to enhance the art experience of high school students
while broadening visitor experience at the Museum.
The grant will enable up to 25 advanced art students from Ashland
High School to take part in all aspects of planning, design,
construction and installation of a natural history exhibit. The
participating students will select the natural history topic
in consultation with Museum staff, and begin their work in the
fall of 2000.
The project will expose the students to active, dynamic museums
and provide them the opportunity to meet museum staff and learn
about museum careers and the history of museum exhibition. In
addition to working with staff at the Cable Natural History Museum,
students will visit the Tweed Museum of Art in Duluth, Minn.,
for behind-the-scenes looks at the exhibit development process.
Students also will be provided with access to books, articles
and other publications about museums.
The project will culminate in an invitation to
the public--including Ashland School students, teachers, administrators
and Museum members--to attend a special opening of the student
exhibit in May 2001.
