MUSEUM CALENDAR WINS AWARD
The Cable Natural History Museum's
Phenology Calendar was selected as a winner in the American Association
of Museum's 1999 Publications Design Contest.
Designed by Director of Exhibits Tom Williams,
the calendar received an Honorable Mention in the calendar division
of the competition for Museums with annual budgets of less than
$500,000. This year's competition drew 1,237 entries. Twenty-three
received a prize, 23 received a second prize, and 122 received
honorable mention. Competing institutions were divided according
to budget (those with annual operating budgets of $500,000 or
more and those with budgets less than $500,000). Within each
budget division, entries competed in 15 categories, including
calendars, exhibition catalogues, posters, newsletters, invitations
to events, press kits, and CD-ROMS. Judges included the publishing
experts from the Library of Congress, the Smithsonian and several
communication executives. Winning entries were displayed at AAM's
annual meeting in Baltimore last month and will be featured in
AAM's national magazine, Museum News, in July.
The Museum's winner features seasonal
observations contributed by people from throughout northern Wisconsin.
The Museum has a limited number of winning 2000
