WISCONSIN DUCK STAMP ARTWORK AT CABLE NATURAL HISTORY MUSEUM
Winning artwork
from the seventh Wisconsin Federal Junior Duck Stamp Contest
will be featured at the Cable Natural History Museum from Jan.
29 until March 2, 2001. The display will be set up in the Museum’s
exhibit area and will be open to public viewing during Museum
hours.
Jaeger Freudenthal, an 18-year-old Wautoma student, received
Best of Show for his painting of greater scaup ducks. His entry
also competed in the national duck stamp competition in Washington
DC and placed 13th there.
The Wisconsin contest was hosted by the Necedah National Wildlife
Refuge on March 22, 2000, and attracted 1004 entries from 164
schools across Wisconsin. A panel of five judges selected 100
pieces of art as first, second, third and honorable mention.
Freudenthal had entered the art contest for the past three years.
He won honorable mention honors his first year, placed second
the next year, and this year won best of show.
In addition to Freudenthal’s entry,
the top five entries included: Amanda Coleman, from Whitefish
Bay; Dan Koepsell, Best of Show winner in 1999, from Waupun;
Nina Goralski, Best of Show winner in 1998, from Oconomowoc;
and Jason Nieuwendorp, from Eagle River.
The Junior Duck Stamp Conservation and Design Program is designed
to teach wetlands and waterfowl conservation to students in grades
K-12 by incorporating scientific and wildlife management principles
into a visual arts curriculum. This non-traditional pairing of
subjects brings new interest to both the sciences and the arts.
The Cable Natural History Museum is open
from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. Tuesday—Friday and from
10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. on Saturday.
