CABLE NATURAL HISTORY MUSEUM OFFERS PAID SUMMER INTERNSHIP
The Cable Natural History Museum
is offering a paid summer internship to a currently enrolled
college student with an interest in natural history and phenology – the
observation and study of seasonal change. The internship will
last 10 weeks during the summer, during which the intern will
work full-time at the Museum. Applications are due by
April 12, 2002.
The intern will create and develop the
Museum Phenology Society, an organization that will provide
a network of support and resources for the Museum’s volunteer phenologists. In addition to
the stipend, interns will be provided with housing for the duration
of the internship at the Musem’s guest an intern house
near Cable.
For the past six years, the Museum has published
an annual phenology calendar using data submitted by about 100 volunteers from
around northwest Wisconsin. The Phenology Society will provide
a supportive organizational structure and recognition for these
volunteers through a regular newsletter, development of a phenology
database on the Museum’s web site, and other resources.
Applicants must be undergraduate students currently enrolled
in any Minnesota, North Dakota or Wisconsin college or university
and who will be continuing their undergraduate studies in the
fall of 2002.
The internship is made possible by a grant
from the Higher Education Consortium for Urban Affairs’ (HECUA)
Partners Internship Program. HECUA is a non-profit consortium
that has been developing academic-community partnerships for
social change regionally and internationally for over 30 years.
