CABLE NATURAL HISTORY MUSEUM EXHIBIT WRITING HONORED
Creative work from the Cable Natural
History Museum has been selected to receive acclaim at the American
Association of Museums annual meeting to be held in May 2002
in Dallas, Texas.
In an attempt to showcase the best examples of exhibit-related
writing from around the country, the AAM solicited writing samples
from its member institutions last fall. The Cable Natural History
Museum submitted text from Bear Essentials, an exhibit
that was featured at the Museum from 1999-2001.
The Museum’s winning entry was a menu produced for the
fictitious "Blueberry Way Buffet" restaurant. The menu
served as a walking tour guide of the Museum’s native gardens,
where visitors found many of the plants that black bears regularly
eat. The Museum’s Assistant Director Laurence Wiland wrote
the menu text.
From among 71 written pieces submitted,
the Cable Natural History Museum’s entry was chosen to
be among eight entries receiving recognition. The winning samples
will be on display at the AAM meeting, allowing attendees to
get an overview of exhibit writing from throughout the country.
Winning entries may also be displayed at other sites including
the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C.
