Long-term Regional Food Security

The Cable Natural History Museum and Cable Community Farm are partnering on the Chequamegon Northwoods Food Coalition Project. Through this project, we will develop a regional coalition among community members to ensure a strong local food economy that provides long-term food security encompassing areas within Ashland, Bayfield, and northern Sawyer counties.

Farm Tour: Valhalla Reindeer Ranch

Saturday, June 21 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at
Valhalla Reindeer Ranch

Join the Chequamegon Northwoods Food Coalition in an engaging onsite tour of the Valhalla Reindeer Ranch, a family homestead and education center located in Glidden, WI. Proprietors Sonia and Adam Horowitz will guide the group through their unique operations, including a composting facility, water conservation via in-ground gardens, polyculture planting techniques, and more. Tour from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. with lunch provided. Meet at the Museum at 9 a.m. for carpool and caravan options to the site. Free, registration is required.

Funding in the amount of $38,000 provided through the Association of Science and Technology Centers – Cultivating Community Science Stipend
